In an industry first, Warner Bros is turning its highly-anticipated movie, The Flash, into the first new release to hit the blockchain, providing fans with an “immersive Web 3 experience.” Buyers will have access to digital locations featuring secret augmented-reality collectibles and exclusive content.
This unique experience includes a voucher to redeem a DC NFT (non-fungible token) as well as randomly selected key art from the film. Warner Bros has been exploring the world of NFTs for approximately a year, although its previous attempt with The Lord of the Rings reportedly received a lukewarm response.
The Flash movie has faced challenges in finding its audience since its release, making the addition of NFTs somewhat of an uncertain move. However, the incorporation of blockchain technology aims to offer fans a new level of engagement and interaction with the film.

There are two editions of the experience available: the ‘premium’ edition, limited to 2,000 copies, and the ‘mystery’ edition, limited to 10,000 copies.
The FlashWeb 3 Movie Experience is set to be released on July 18, 2023, via the Warner Bros website.
While the blockchain release provides an innovative and immersive experience, fans can also choose to go the traditional route, with a physical release of the film likely scheduled for August or September.
Will this be a hit and usher in a new era of watching movies on the blockchain? Stay tuned to find out.
