With the long-awaited world premiere of Barbie having arrived, fans all over the globe are buzzing with excitement. To commemorate this seminal pop-culture moment, Spotify has embraced the pink fever and introduced some Barbie-themed changes to its platform.
For starters, the streaming service has given a fresh update to the exclusive Barbie Official Playlist, adding new music from Atlantic Records to celebrate all the Barbies and Kens out there. This revamped playlist features tracks that perfectly capture the essence of Barbie’s world.
Some of the newly added songs include Dua Lipa’s Dance The Night, Billie Eilish’s What Was I Made For?, and the catchy collaboration of Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice with Barbie World (with Aqua).
In the lead-up to the release of the film, Spotify noted an astonishing number of Barbie-related user-generated playlists, over 620,000 of them, in fact. The creation of playlists saw a significant spike of nearly 270% on May 26, right after the release of the trailer. The enthusiasm has only continued to grow in the following weeks.
Among the most popular additions to these user-created Barbie playlists are classic hits like California Gurls by Katy Perry and Snoop Dogg, Barbie Tingz by Nicki Minaj, Toxic and Oops!...I Did It Again by Britney Spears, Wannabe by Spice Girls, Girls Just Want to Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper, and, of course, the iconic 1997 Aqua hit single Barbie Girl.
As a special Easter egg, the newly-updated playlist will include Spotify Canvas on selected tracks in the form of a short looping visual film footage. Additionally, the playlist will feature the movie’s score, composed by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, set to be released on August 4.
To indulge Barbie enthusiasts further, Spotify has introduced the Living in a Barbie World destination. This section includes the Barbie Official Playlist and other curated playlists like Summer Pop and the brand-new Hot Pink playlist, which aims to give listeners a personalized Barbie-inspired vibe for their summer enjoyment.
