In its ongoing pursuit of expanding creative horizons, TikTok has recently introduced a new format for content creation: text posts. This new addition to the platform aims to provide users with a dedicated space for unleashing their written creativity.
For some time now, creators on the app have already been uploading text-based videos using the photos function or even overlaying a paragraph over a video. This new feature gives users a more direct approach to uploading written posts.
To create a text post, you will need to access the Camera page. You will be presented with three options: photo, video, and text. The new written content allows “creators to share their stories, poems, recipes” in 1,000 words or less, according to TikTok.
One of the features of text posts is the ability to personalize them. Much like other types of content on TikTok, users can add sound to their creations, such as audio and stickers.
Tags and hashtags are also available in text posts, allowing users to connect with other accounts and reach a broader audience. Furthermore, various background colors allow writers to make their texts eye-catching and aesthetically pleasing.
The move comes when Twitter (now rebranded to X) seems to be losing its grip on its audience. As it continues shifting in a new direction, competition has stiffened up. First was the introduction of Threads, which became the fastest-growing social media platform, with 100 million users joining the app within the first five days. However, traffic has since dropped by 70%. This has only opened the door for other apps, such as TikTok, to take a stab at becoming the new Twitter.
