Twitter Ditches Ex Handles For, Well, @X

Twitter’s rebranding is now well underway after owner Elon Musk made the announcement just a few days ago. With its logo, name, and the sign from its headquarters on its way out, the newest change comes with its official account removing its previous handle @twitter to now read @X.
 
Users who go onto the site will find that the old @twitter page is no longer active, and that all its new and old tweets (X’s?) have been moved to a new symbolic home. Not only that, but other official accounts, such as @Twitter Support, @TwitterDev, and @TwitterAPI, are going by @Support, @Xdevelopers, and @API. Even Twitter Blue has been rebranded to @XBlue.

The change has been a little all over the place, with many still seeing the Twitter name in search bars, and the blue bird still visible on mobile. As well as the fact that its sign outside of its headquarters now just reads “er” after the company failed to secure a permit for its removal.
 
In fact, the previous owner of @X—a San Francisco user named Gene X Hwang—was reported by TechCrunch to still have had his username just a day ago. Hwang mentioned that, at the time, he had not been approached by the social media site for the handle and that he would give it up if compensated well. However, it seems that the platform has been able to get a hold of the name, but it’s unclear how negotiations went down.
 
Hwang tweeted that “all’s well that ends well” on his account, which now goes by the username @x12345678998765.
