Apple’s Latest Patent Features Unique Modular Laptop Complete With A Turntable

Back in February, an interesting patent filed by Apple was unveiled, featuring a detachable Apple Watch that came with a built-in camera and a detachable cover and band system.

Now, another idea has surfaced, this time of a modular laptop that comes complete with a turntable attached. Dating back to 2021, the patent has just received approval from the United States Patents and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Labeled as a “modularized computing and input device,” the modular setup would act as a dock that could be fitted with multiple screens and keyboards in customizable configurations.

In fact, as Gizmodo pointed out, the hinge base would allow all of the devices attached to swivel from side to side. While some diagrams show how three screens could be connected together, others envision it as a keyboard-free tablet, too.

Most unique, however, is the figure that depicts the gadget attached to a classic vinyl turntable. It’s suggested that the player would be connected to the main machine via a wired or wireless connection.

“The computing device can be utilized by a music producer, a disc jockey, an audio engineer, or the like to generate music in one configuration while also being modular to permit the user to remove the input device,” the patent explained.

As intriguing as the idea seems, it’s best not to get your hopes up. Many of Apple’s patents have not come to fruition, and this turntable-laptop combination will probably never hit the shelves. That doesn’t mean it’s not a great idea to ponder.
