It may not be long before Meta decides to unveil its artificial intelligence (AI) tools—based on its latest Llama 2 machine learning model—to the public. Before it does that, however, it appears the technology giant could introduce labels to help users more easily identify generated content.
According to screenshots shared by famed reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi, who often reveals up-and-coming features from the company, posts containing images made with AI tools could be marked “generated by Meta AI.”
“The creator or Meta said that this content was created or edited with AI,” the in-application message reads. Other labels that may accompany this note include a remark that “content created with AI is typically labeled so that it can be easily detected.”
While the firm has declined to comment on the matter, it’s not surprising that it could be taking steps to point out generative content to its users. As a matter of fact, Meta joined six other corporations in pledging to adopt safety measures, such as watermarking AI-generated images.
Paluzzi has teased other upcoming AI tools for Instagram, such as a “message summary” function that could help make long direct messages (DMs) more concise, new creative options for users to edit Stories, and the ability to generate custom stickers.
