AI.Com Mysteriously Redirects To Elon Musk’s xAI Instead Of ChatGPT
If there’s one domain name that’s probably become one of the most coveted on the web, it’s ai.com. And it turns out, the site, which used to redirect users to artificial intelligence (AI) text generator ChatGPT, now brings visitors to Elon Musk’s xAI instead.
The billionaire first launched his new AI company last month, which purportedly aims to “unravel the mysteries of the universe.” Not to be confused with X—or Twitter—it appears xAI is a completely separate entity from X Corp.
According to Mashable, the domain changed hands in 2021 when it was vacant for a period of time before ChatGPT took over. It was reported in February that web page broker saw.com had transferred the ownership to OpenAI for an asking price of US$11 million.

Now, with the change from ChatGPT to xAI, many are wondering if Elon Musk has forked out an even bigger sum to buy over the domain or if the change is part of a recent hack.
While internet users speculate the cause of the sudden switch, others have noted that this incident comes as X recently seized the username @xai from a Japanese user, making it the company’s official account.
