Summertime means it’s also Birkenstock season, and right at the height of summer, the brand has just announced a new sandal that it’s adding to its collection.
With the fashion and pop culture movement Birkenstocks have sparked off over the years, there’s no denying that the company knows what it’s doing. This is why it’s not pumping out new kicks every year. Instead, it found a formula that works and that its fans enjoy and has stuck to an iconic crew of sandals and familiar silhouettes.
Now joining the likes of Arizona, Boston, and Madrid is newcomer Cannes. It looks like a new and improved version of the Milano kicks, but instead of an exposed cork footbed, it has wrapped it up in glossy leather.
Avid Birkenstock fans might have realized that the only times the company covers up its iconic cork sole is for shoes that are part of its 1774 exclusive line, which offers some of its higher-end goods. It does look like Cannes might have some of the hallmarks of a pair of shoes that could belong in the 1774 line, but it’s very much part of its general lineup.
