In a world where new forms of communication constantly emerge, email continues to stand the test of time, remaining a primary communication tool for businesses and individuals alike.

In fact, according to Statistica and the 2023 State of Email Workflows Report by Litmus, over four billion users and 87% of marketing leaders consider it critical to their success.

Now, an exciting new exhibition—Email is Dead—presented by Intuit Mailchimp, aims to explore the past, present, and future of this enduring medium at the Design Museum in London.

From September 28, 2023, visitors can step into the interactive exhibition, which will take them on a journey through the history of email, from its humble beginnings in the 1970s to the exciting possibilities it might hold in the year 2070.

The display delves beyond its conventional use as a mere communication tool and investigates the messaging medium’s impact on various aspects of our lives, including work, relationships, cultures, and economies.

Not everything’s going to be shown on a computer screen. Rather, colorful, inflatable, and interactive displays will encourage exploration and participation as one travels through the different exhibits.

One highlight is the opportunity to create an “email time capsule,” where individuals can leave a personal message to be sealed for the future.

Ever wondered if there were different kinds of email senders? Attendees can take a look into their email habits and communication style with a special email personality test.

Additionally, for those who can’t stand overflowing inboxes or click on “send” before the message is fully written,  Inbox Elixir and the Email Therapy Machine are the perfect places to seek refuge.

That’s not all. Throughout the journey, one will learn more about email’s far-reaching impact on art, film, television, and brand engagement.

“Email is one of the most prevalent communication tools in the world, and everyone's connection to the medium is personal,” commented Michelle Taite, Intuit Mailchimp’s CMO.

“With this exhibition, we'll present a life-sized reminder of how distinctive, powerful, and indispensable email is to life as we know it and explore words, design, and experiences that matter in this platform, ultimately answering a question we are often asked: Is email dead? Not even close.”
