With over 100 million songs available to listen to on Apple Music, it can be daunting to try branching out from familiar artists into the murky waters of the unknown.
To help users uncover their future favorites, it appears the platform has quietly launched a “hidden” feature in the form of a personalized radio station: Discovery Station.
Using what it learns from one’s listening habits, the station will pick and suggest songs it deems similar. As AppleInsider pointed out, this could take Apple Music closer to the likes of Spotify’s algorithmic recommendations.
According to Engadget, an Apple spokesperson revealed that the special playlist will only feature music that a user hasn’t played before. Songs could come from familiar names or singers the model thinks an individual will enjoy.
Interestingly, to serve its key purpose of helping one discover new tunes, Discovery Station has been programmed never to play the same song twice—and will carry on until it’s paused or stopped.
While Apple Music hasn’t widely publicized the release of the tool, subscribers can access it via the ‘Listen Now’ page and select it from the ‘Stations for You’ section. Or use this direct link spotted by MacRumors.
