‘Monopoly’ Movie Back On The Table With Hasbro And Lionsgate

The proposed Monopoly movie has been under wraps for some years, encountering challenges as different directors and actors have been associated with the project. 

With the success of different IPs entering new media formats, it seems like the prospect of the Monopoly movie is back on the table.

Recently, toys like Barbie and video games like Super Mario Bros. and The Last of Us have successfully crossed the threshold into the film and television universe. This could hint at a potential for more toy-based films to emerge into the cinematic landscape.

Interestingly, the Monopoly movie is without a confirmed director or cast, leaving room for speculation about its potential direction. It was previously suspected that Ridley Scott and Kevin Hart were both attached to the film at one point.

A synopsis for the movie on IMDb reads: “The movie centers on a boy, from the game’s modest Baltic Avenue, on a quest to make a fortune.”

CEO of Hasbro, Chris Cocks, noted that the recent sale of the toy company’s entertainment business, eOne, to Lionsgate opens the door for future projects that will rest in the trusted hands of the movie studio—especially that of the rumored Monopoly movie.
