Milan’s Iconic Historical Shopping Arcade Gets Tagged With Graffiti

Milan police are trying to identify three graffiti artists who climbed up and tagged the stone entrance of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II on Monday night.
The three masked suspects were caught on camera spraying green paint onto the façade of the city’s oldest active shopping gallery. Per Reuters, law enforcers said the figures were sighted around 10:20 p.m. but had left the scene before they could be apprehended.

While tagging the 19th-century monument, the group was booed by visitors standing below, according to Milano Today.
Officials are investigating the matter and hope to identify the artists.
A big question mark is how the trio had managed to reach the top of the entrance, which is out of bounds. It is speculated they could have scaled the structure via the gallery’s connecting shops or hotels, Reuters reports.
Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini has condemned the act, stating that the culprits should face due punishment for them to learn “a lesson they will never forget.”
The stunt was most likely pulled by everyday graffitists instead of climate activists, who often make impassioned statements about change after targeting cultural sites.
