Porsche Design, the luxury product design studio founded by the creator of the 911 sports car, has introduced a new pair of sunglasses inspired by the acclaimed automobile, offering a distinctive and futuristic perspective on eyewear.
The P’8951 sunglasses, under the Iconic Machined Series, showcase an outline-style frame and a single-piece lens. Unlike other metal-framed glasses, these were made using CNC machining and crafted out of solid metal. The use of such methods does remove any design constraints. However, being chiseled out of solid metal has added to its weight… and cost.
The result is a pair of shades that look like something you would find if Tesla’s Cybertruck were to come with free sunglasses. Its unique shape takes after that of Aviators, but Porsche Design has gone down a blocky, almost robotic route with the P’8951 instead of more rounded and curved edges.
Though, if you want to get your hands on one, you might have to be as quick as the Porsche 911 itself. Only 911 pairs are up for grabs at US$1,200 in honor of the car they were designed after. For some, these shades might serve as more than just protection from the sun by shielding eyes that might be teary from parting with such a sum as well.
