LEGO Launches 2,083-Piece Concorde Build Honoring Commercial Supersonic Plane

In the annals of aviation history, the Concorde stands as a testament to humanity’s relentless pursuit of conquering the skies. Emerging as a joint endeavor between the United Kingdom and France, the Concorde promised to soar into the future at unprecedented speeds. Its legacy endures not only in history books but also in the form of a 2,083-piece LEGO model recreation of the plane.

The Concorde, celebrated for being the first commercial aircraft to take to the Atlantic skies at supersonic velocities, etched its mark in the aviation world. With a top speed of Mach 2.04, it could whisk passengers between New York and London in just three hours.

However, despite its initial promise, the supersonic pioneer failed to revolutionize the aviation industry as envisioned. A mere 20 Concordes were brought to life, constrained by cost overruns and fierce competition from the Boeing 747, which could carry more passengers and eventually stood out as top dog.

Now, bridging the chasm between nostalgia and innovation, LEGO pays homage to the Concorde’s legacy. The new kit captures the essence of this aviation marvel. The model’s removable roof unveils a miniature cabin, where limited seating and snug lavatories encapsulate the era’s design nuances. To add to its realism, the model incorporates a Technic mechanism that can raise and retract the landing gear.

LEGO has also added its iconic drooping nose, which was part of its original design to enhance visibility during flight.

Priced at US$200, this homage in bricks will be available from September 7, with an early release for LEGO VIP program members.
