Google Photos Organizes Your Memories Into Scrapbooks With Help From AI

In an effort to help users declutter their photo libraries and relive their most cherished moments, Google Photos is introducing ‘Memories View’, a curated and organized timeline of images, powered by artificial intelligence.

With the growing number of photos and videos stored on our smartphones, it’s often challenging to sift through the clutter and find the most meaningful moments.

This is where the new feature steps in. Building upon the ‘Memories Carousel’ tool from the past four years, the addition takes this concept further by creating a dedicated space for users’ cherished memories.

Users will get to enjoy a scrapbook-like timeline curated and organized through the assistance of AI technology, allowing them an effortless way to revisit, customize, and share their most significant experiences with others.

According to Google, Memories View will first be available to users in the United States before expanding to a global audience over the coming months.

The feature can be accessed through the updated navigation menu at the bottom of the Google Photos application.

There’s no need to fret that an unwanted picture will end up spoiling one of these scrapbooks. Users have the autonomy to save their favorite memories to the dedicated view or craft entirely new ones from scratch.

Additionally, individuals have the flexibility to add or remove specific photos and videos, allowing users to fine-tune the experience according to their preferences.

In addition, users will be able to rename their memories to capture the essence and emotions of the moment. Alternatively, for those who need help, the algorithm can suggest titles.

Furthermore, this feature allows users to guide the AI-generated titles by providing additional context through the “add hint” button.

As sharing memories often adds to their significance, Google Photos is also introducing collaborative memory sharing.

Similar to the collaborative album tool, users can invite friends and family to contribute photos and videos to a shared memory, creating a collective recollection of an event.

That’s not all. In an upcoming update, individuals will be able to share their memories as videos, allowing them to easily send these sentimental recollections to friends and family via messaging or social media platforms.
