Frank Lloyd Wright’s 100-Year-Old Imperial Hotel Is Being Honored As A Watch
Back in 1923, as Tokyo grappled with earthquakes and fires, the Imperial Hotel emerged as a beacon of resilience. Frank Lloyd Wright wove his creativity into every facet of the building. This fusion of artistry and functionality gave birth to an iconic structure that defied conventions.
The Imperial Hotel stands tall a century later, a living testament to Wright’s genius. Its 100th anniversary is a tribute to his ability to craft spaces that transcend time. And in celebration of that, a watch has been created by American timepiece manufacturing company Bulova as an homage to the structure and Wright.
The watch boasts a hexagonal gold-tone stainless steel case with gently curved edges. The dial reflects the hotel’s essence with a dynamic peacock pattern inspired by the mural and carpets.
Wright included Mayan and pre-Colombian Mesoamerican influences in the design of the building, which echoed throughout the piece. Wearers can find an embossed drawing of the façade on its back.
The watch runs on the Miyota quartz movement and can withstand water resistance of up to almost 100 feet.
The ensemble is complete with a serene blue leather strap, stitched and stamped to mirror the dial’s motif.
Only 1,000 of the Frank Lloyd Wright limited-edition pieces are available for US$495 on Bulova’s official website for those who yearn to carry a part of architectural history on their wrist.
