As it builds up its electric vehicle ecosystem, Mercedes-Benz is offering a sneak peek at the first set of high-power charging stations opening this fall.
The automaker recently announced it will be launching these Mercedes-Benz Charging Hubs in three key locations: Atlanta (USA), Chengdu (China), and Mannheim (Germany).
These developments will kick off an ambitious plan to create a global network of chargers, presenting more efficient and sustainable charging options for EV users.
By the close of 2024, Mercedes-Benz aims to establish over 2,000 high-power charging points all over the world, with an impressive goal of over 10,000 charging points by the end of the decade.
Depending on the region, these charging stations can provide an impressive charging rate of up to 400 kW, leveraging standard charging systems such as CCS1, CCS2, NACS, and GB/T.
With theimplementation of intelligent charging management, each vehicle can be charged at its optimal power capacity, significantly reducing the waiting time for customers.
To offer the most seamless experience, the Charging Hubs will be strategically placed at high-traffic locations and select Mercedes-Benz dealerships.
These locations will offer drivers amenities while they wait, including refreshments, snacks, and restroom facilities. Some stations will even include canopies to offer shelter from bad weather.
Smart lightpoles will also be integrated to provide proper illumination, along with LED indicators to display charging point availability and vehicle charging status.
Don’t havea Mercedes? That’s okay. The network warmly welcomes drivers of all brands, though naturally, the automaker’s own customers will be entitled to certain privileges.
For instance, they can reserve a charging point via the Mercedes-Benz me Charge service to mitigate waiting times or integrate the location of stations via the automaker’s navigation application.
To make the charging experience even more convenient for those on the go, the stations will introduce features like Plug & Charge.
This service aims to streamline the charging and payment process as soon as the cable is plugged in, offering an added layer of ease for EV users.
“We firmly believe that electric mobility is the key to a sustainable, zero-emission future. Our goal is to create an infrastructure that offers electric vehicles reliable and easy charging options,” said Franz Reiner, CEO at Mercedes-Benz Mobility AG.
“In this way, we are actively supporting the transformation to electric mobility With the Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging Network, we are expanding global charging options and setting new standards in electric vehicle charging.”
