Meta’s Latest AI Model Offers Users Free Coding Help For Commercial Use

Meta, which previously released an ‘AudioCraft’ generator that turns text into music and a “state-of-the-art” image program, is back with more tools users can tap on free of charge.

Code Llama builds on the technology giant’s Llama 2 language model—designed to revolutionize coding tasks and enhance the efficiency of developers’ workflows.

Specifically tailored for coding-related activities, this tool has the potential to accelerate coding processes and simplify the learning curve for those new to programming.

The primary highlight of Code Llama is its ability to generate and discuss code based on text prompts, be it coding snippets, code-related queries, or even natural language requests for coding tasks.

Additionally, the utility of the software extends beyond mere code generation. The model also offers code completion and debugging support, helping programmers refine their work and identify potential errors more efficiently.

It poses a significant step towards automating repetitive coding tasks, allowing developers to focus on the more creative and human-centric aspects of their job.

The company is rolling out three sizes of the model: 7B, 13B, and 34B, each tuned to serve different requirements. The 7B model, for instance, can be deployed on a single GPU, whereas the 34B model offers higher accuracy and coding assistance.

That’s not all. For even more versatile use, Meta has introduced specialized variations. For example, Code Llama—Python is fine-tuned to excel in Python coding tasks, while Code Llama—Instruct can be used to better comprehend natural language instruction inputs.

The program, which can be used for both research and commercial purposes, hopes to empower the coding community to identify issues, collaborate on enhancements, and enhance overall safety.

“We believe an open approach to AI is best for developing new AI tools that are innovative, safe, and responsible, so we’re releasing Code Llama for both research and commercial use under the same community license as Llama 2,” the company said.
