Real Madrid Shows Off Sneak Peeks Of Overhauled Stadium With Retractable Pitch
Over the last couple of years, the famed Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in Madrid, Spain, has been undergoing renovations to revamp the legendary venue for modern-day visitors.
Real Madrid CF recently surprised fans by releasing sneak peeks of the inner workings of the iconic arena, which is rumored to have £1 billion (US$1.25 billion) worth of investments sunk into the massive refurbishment project.

The club’s latest video shows off an impressive retractable pitch installation that allows for the turf to be hidden and uncovered via a tray-like contraption, making it appear or vanish on command by moving underground.
This technology, as Sports Brief noted, is also found at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and could signal one of the big trends soccer teams are looking to incorporate into newly developed venues.

That’s not all. Prior to this, the Bernabeu’s unique closed roof previously made headlines for helping to conjure a “spectacular atmosphere” while shielding matchgoing fans from inclement weather.
