Spotify’s Hidden Mini-Game Will Take You Back To Pre-Smartphone Days

Spotify is home to over 100 million tracks, five million podcasts, and 350,000 audio books—but did you know it houses a game too?
Music has the power to elicit memories from an important time in your life. In the same vein, the streaming giant’s hidden Eat this Playlist game will drum up sentimental feelings of your days with Nokia feature phones like the 3310 “brick.” It’s Spotify’s version of the classic Snake, but with musical overtones.
According to several news outlets, the game was introduced in June as part of a test for select users. It seems to be a permanent addition now, as DesignTAXI recently discovered the feature while navigating the app.
To locate Eat this Playlist, open any playlist and tap on the three dots. You’ll find the feature right at the bottom.
Eat this Playlist plays just like the 90s arcade video game, but the “snake” is made up of songs in the list. And instead of eating apples, it’s nourished by a diet of music and consumes tracks from the selected playlist.

When a track gets devoured, its album art gets added to the snake’s body when it gets devoured. A lovely musical touch is when the character is making its way to its food, the corresponding song plays in the background. The color of the interface also changes in relation to the artwork.
Players can also add tracks to their personal playlists with the ‘+’ icon situated at the top of the screen. It’s a fun, lesser-known way to preview songs and discover new favorites.
