Apple Debuts Kaleidoscopic Wallpapers That Morph Throughout The Day In iOS 17

Apple, with its muted iPhone colorways, has been poked fun at for seemingly being repelled by color. Well, it turns out that it’s what’s on the inside that counts, as the Cupertino tech giant has quietly unleashed a whole category of kaleidoscopic wallpapers into the latest iOS 17 to vividly snazz up your device.
The spectrum comprises over a dozen jewel and flower designs that aren’t just hypnotic by nature, but they also dance throughout the day thanks to an algorithm that Apple has applied to them.

According to Apple in its iOS 17 support document, the wallpapers feature “an algorithm to analyze the photo you pick, find the most interesting elements, and create a beautiful kaleidoscope pattern that moves throughout the day,” and that “multiple styles reveal unique expressions of the same photo.” These backgrounds have arrived on iPadOS 17 too, for those who love gazing at optical illusions.

To locate the new selection, make sure your device is updated to the latest software version. Then, it’s only a matter of heading to Settings, Wallpaper, and Add New Wallpaper. Scroll down until you see the Kaleidoscopic category.

You’ll find 14 vibrant kaleidoscopic styles consisting of jewels in red, orange, green, blue, purple, and gray, and eight flower designs. If you’ve selected one of the gem artworks, you might want to toggle on the system dark mode as well, since the wallpaper is made to switch from light to dark.
