Casio Celebrates 40 Years Of G-Shocks With Samurai Helmet-Inspired Watch

Casio, commemorating four decades of its famed G-Shock watches, recently announced the launch of a new addition to its flagship MR-G series, the MRG-B2000SG.

With only 700 pieces available worldwide, this exclusive timepiece draws inspiration from the traditional Shougeki-Maru: Gai kabuto helmet.

Featuring a distinctive crest adorned with a tiger pattern, this powerful design pays homage to the unwavering determination of a samurai warrior who remains true to their convictions. 

Each detail of the accessory has been meticulously crafted, incorporating sophisticated technology and master metalworking techniques.

In fact, the wristwatch’s shock-resistant construction mirrors the bold determination of the ancient headpiece, while the white band and engraved bezel add a touch of sophistication to the look.

On the bezel of the timepiece sits the engraving of a fierce tiger specially crafted by the esteemed metalsmith Kobayashi Masao. The tiger stripes are beautifully expressed through a unique relief pattern, varying in size and shape.

Plus, the watch’s pure white band takes its cue from the white ito odoshi—the overlaying plates of armor bound together with white string. This element represents purity and unyielding determination, reflecting the samurai warrior’s commitment to staying true to oneself.

Crafted with fluor rubber, the band offers flexibility, durability, and stain resistance, ensuring a comfortable fit on the wearer’s wrist. The case is made with titanium material and is ion-plated in a dark silver color, reminiscent of the helmet’s appearance.

To enhance the rugged aesthetics and replicate the hue of the artifact, Casio has applied a deep-layer hardening process to increase the case’s hardness and bring out a crystalline pattern.

These finishes give the watch a distinctive and robust look, perfectly capturing the essence of the Shougeki-Maru: Gai kabuto helmet in a single wearable.

The side of the case proudly displays a metal plate commemorating this milestone, while the screw heads are adorned with rubies, symbolizing passion and success.
