Shutterstock Brings AI Image Editing Directly To Its Library

Shutterstock has recently introduced a new artificial intelligence-powered feature, known as Creative AI, offering customers the ability to modify images from its library. This new tool allows users to change elements like color, background, and dimensions.

Creative AI offers six distinct capabilities, including the Magic Brush tool for precise edits and the Smart Resize tool for cropping images. Additionally, the royalty-free asset platform’s AI Image Generator, powered by OpenAI’s DALL-E, enables users to generate images from scratch.

Other features include the ability to expand, crop, and entirely change an image background.

Shutterstock offers AI editing tools accessible to users without requiring a paid subscription. However, logging in is necessary to access Creative AI. If users intend to commercialize their edited images, licensing fees are applicable.

It’s important to note that not all images in Shutterstock’s library are available for editing; editorial and premium content remains exempt.

Content obtained from Shutterstock’s AI image generator can be used for all types of projects “worry-free,” the company explains, as the model is trained on assets from its library.

To reinforce a more responsible and ethical approach to using AI in the creative landscape, Shutterstock has also joined the Content Authenticity Initiative to combat the spread of misleading information online. Furthermore, Shutterstock has assured artists they will be compensated fairly if their images are licensed after editing.

“With each licensed AI-generated art piece, our contributors are paid for their help in training the models. This means that not only is our AI image generator safe to use, you can feel good while using it,” says the tech giant.
