Mitsubishi Unveils Electrified Concept That Merges Cabin Travel With An SUV

Mitsubishi recently unveiled the D:X Concept at the Japan Mobility Show 2023—an electrified crossover that pairs the cabin space of an MPV with the road handling of an SUV.

One of the key design principles behind the D:X Concept is the goal of maximizing space and safety for humans while offering maximum off-road power for boundaryless adventure.  

The model inherits the spacious interiors and top-notch safety features of the automaker’s popular Delica while incorporating modern design elements.

Upon first look, one will notice the vehicle’s character expressed through its side window graphics, robust D-pillar, and spacious front window, providing a sense of openness and security.

Additionally, sturdy over fenders, large-diameter tires, front and rear skid plates, and side step protectors enhance the car’s off-road capabilities on every adventure.

The exterior design is equally striking, featuring the Dynamic Shield front face design concept with an integrated shield for cabin protection.

Distinctive T-shaped lights, projection laser lights, and a luxurious glamping-inspired copper body color add to its visual appeal.

Inside, the D:X Concept offers a comfortable and spacious cabin with rotating panoramic seats, a wide front window, and a see-through hood displaying important information about road conditions.

There’s even a voice-interactive AI concierge that helps drivers with route information and other details.

Passengers can relax in the cabin—decorated with tan-colored genuine leather and gray metal accents—while enjoying the sound system, developed in collaboration with Yamaha Corporation.

Safety isn’t left out, either. With a reinforced rib-bone frame structure and a circular framework structure, passengers are enveloped in a sense of security no matter the terrain.

The D:X Concept also boasts an electric 4WD system with enhanced handling in various weather and road conditions.

The vehicle promises to offer a smooth and precise driving experience while maintaining minimal swaying for passengers.

Drivers can opt to use the electric vehicle (EV) mode for daily use or switch to a hybrid mode for long-distance trips, depending on one’s driving needs.
