Toyota Introduces All-Electric Sports Car Concept That Could Rival Porsche

At the recent Japan Mobility Show 2023, Toyota unveiled two of its latest battery electric vehicle (BEV) concept models: the FT-3e and the FT-Se.

Envisioning cars as lifestyle partners that align closely with each individual’s values, the automaker hopes the pair of vehicles will offer highly responsive controls and captivating designs unique to BEVs, as well as a personalized driving experience.

The FT-Se, in particular, is a high-performance sports BEV model designed as an option for sports car enthusiasts in the carbon-neutral era.

It incorporates the expertise gained from Toyota Gazoo Racing’s efforts, focused on enhancing handling stability and aerodynamic performance while sharing major components with the FT-3e.

Visually, the FT-Se boasts wide and low proportions, along with a sleek and cutting-edge silhouette that not only catches the eye but also helps reduce aerodynamic drag.

Within the car, drivers will find a next-generation full-digital cockpit that offers intuitive controls and a more immersive driving experience.

The low instrument panel profile ensures excellent visibility, while newly designed kneepads provide added protection from G-forces during exhilarating drives.

Speaking to Top Gear, the company revealed the vehicle will feature two electric motors, with one positioned on the front axle and the other on the rear, providing enhanced performance and balanced power distribution.

Additionally, the car will be equipped with a “unique” third-generation battery pack.

Intriguingly, Toyota seems to see the FT-Se as a competitor to the next-generation Porsche 718 Cayman, also an electric vehicle.

In fact, the firm has plans to take a prototype of the sports car to the renowned Nürburgring for testing. However, there is still work to be done before that becomes a reality, and production of the car may not begin until after 2026.
