Microsoft Stamps Out Unapproved Third-Party Accessories For Xbox
Microsoft is clamping down on unauthorized third-party Xbox controllers and accessories that fall outside the “designed for Xbox” hardware partner program starting from November 12.
Those who are currently using any unlicensed controllers, headsets, or other peripherals will encounter an error code (0x82d60002) and get a two-week grace period to continue using the accessory before it is rendered incompatible with the console.

The appeal of unofficial controllers often lies in their ability to provide customization and unique features. Some users may seek third-party alternatives for specialized functions, improved aesthetics, or because they could be a more cost-efficient option.
However, it seems like the recent crackdown by Microsoft seeks to safeguard the console’s integrity and maintain a level playing field, discouraging the use of cheat devices that could undermine the gaming experience for others.
Microsoft’s counsel to those affected is to get in touch with the vendor you acquired the controller from and arrange for a return. A bit forward, yes. But Microsoft is also claiming that the ban is to enhance a user’s experience.
Admittedly, many might not be happy with the decision, but there are plenty of third-party brands that offer the best accessories that are licensed with Microsoft. In fact, the tech company is also expanding its list of partners.
