Zillow is peeling back its curtains with a sneak peek into the hottest home trends primed to take over in 2024.
For a forecast that truly hits home, the real-estate marketplace sifted through nearly 300 home feature mentions in for-sale listings, identifying the key trends skyrocketing in popularity compared to the previous year.
“When certain keywords appear in a rising share of listings, it’s a signal that today’s home buyers may be gravitating toward those features,” explains Amanda Pendleton, Zillow’s home trends expert. “Real-estate agents are uniquely attuned to subtle changes in what buyers want, and they often get a first look at the latest and greatest features going into newly built homes. Savvy listing agents will highlight those trending, in-demand features when marketing a home for sale.”
From raw brutalism to tranquil sensory gardens, here are some rising stars among interior features—and, finally, one “trend” that’s being booted out. Check out the full lineup here.
Brutalism

Characterized by raw materials, like concrete floors and bronze light fixtures, brutalism resonates with both minimalists and creative souls looking to infuse their personal touch. A staggering 452% rise in for-sale listings mentions the mid-20th-century design.
Sensory Gardens
Witnessing a 314% uptick from the previous year on the site, sensory gardens—designed to stimulate all five senses—are becoming coveted outdoor spaces, offering therapeutic escapism.
Cold Plunge Pools
Outpacing the traditional hot tub, these pools promise wellness benefits like improved circulation. Listings with cold plunge pools are up by a whopping 130%.
Pickleball Courts
The paddle sport is gaining traction, with a 100% rise in New York City listings mentioning proximity to pickleball courts.
“Pickleball courts have become a great selling feature because they appeal to athletes of all ages,” expresses Joy Kim Metalios, a Zillow premier agent partner in Fairfield County, Connecticut. “I’ve seen homeowners converting their driveways into courts by using portable nets… Since pickleball is such a social sport, an at-home court has become the latest entertaining feature, like an outdoor kitchen or a pizza oven.”

Bidding adieu to monotony, vibrant murals are sprucing up home interiors. An 18% rise in Zillow listings attests to their burgeoning popularity.
If painting your wall seems like too much commitment, try switching up the art in your home for an instant facelift.
Lastly, here’s what’s fading out:
The ‘Cloffice’
While the pandemic popularized the ‘cloffice’ (an office in a closet), its charm seems to wane. Zillow listings showing “cloffices” have plummeted by 54%. Likewise, Zoom rooms and office sheds are on a downward trajectory.
As home design preferences evolve post-pandemic, it’s evident that homeowners are opting for a blend of raw aesthetics and holistic wellness.
