Of all the major milestones in an infant’s life, few compare to one’s very first steps. And to support toddlers as they learn to walk, Nike recently released the Swoosh 1—kicks specially designed to serve early trekkers.
According to the sportswear giant, research shows an individual’s lifelong gait is developed as soon as five to six months after they begin walking.
As such, the brand decided to develop sneakers that would allow little athletes’ feet to grip and splay as “they’re naturally intended to.”
In fact, the Swoosh 1 is the first Nike Kids’ shoe to receive the American Podiatric Medical Association Seal of Acceptance—certifying the special pair’s ability to help promote “natural foot development” in children.
Most of this lies in the sneakers’ seamless Flyknit upper, which allows for 360-degree pliable support with every step. As the kicks can bend in all directions, infants learning to walk will feel as though they’re strolling around barefoot.
In addition, the shoe’s wide toe box allows for toes to flex naturally, while the lightweight TPU outsole provides grip and traction to minimize falls.
