Elon Musk Introduces Grok AI, A Humorous Real-Time Chatbot That ‘Loves Sarcasm’
Despite issuing a warning that artificial intelligence (AI) was “one of the biggest threats to humanity,” Tesla CEO Elon Musk has recently unveiled a brand-new chatbot, Grok.
The model, which claims to have “a massive advantage” over its competitors by accessing real-time information on X, was inspired by The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, making it prone to sarcastic responses.

For instance, Musk posted an example of the chatbot answering a query for a step-by-step guide to making cocaine. It provided tongue-in-cheek answers, including suggesting the individual “obtain a chemistry degree” and “set up a clandestine laboratory in a remote location.”
Thankfully, the algorithm seems to reel its quirky sense of humor in at the end, cautioning that any attempts to create the drug were “illegal, dangerous, and not something [it] would ever encourage.”

At the moment, Grok remains in early testing and is not yet available for use. It’ll first be released to subscribers on X’s most expensive tier, Premium+. Though, the rather self-aware engineers at Musk’s xAI have asked users not to try out the chatbot if they “hate humor.”
In a blog post detailing the launch, the company claimed its technology—dubbed Grok-1—had surpassed OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 in particular areas, such as solving middle-school math questions. It has yet to reach the heights of GPT-4.
