‘Inside Out 2’ Invites Inevitable Memes After Revealing Anxiety As New Emotion

Disney’s Pixar has left audiences in hysterics —that’s a new emotion for you—with the release of the teaser trailer for Inside Out 2.
In the sequel, Riley is now a teenager, and as anyone who has gone through puberty would understand, things get complicated in the feelings department. Inside Out 2 will introduce a host of new, uncomfortable emotions, supposedly named Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment, and Ennui.
Fans meet Anxiety, the first of the newcomers, in the promo. Voiced by Maya Hawke of Stranger Things fame, the character is a scrawny orange figure with a messy tuft of hair—with tons of baggage on tow.

This persona that people can resonate all too well with has, naturally, inspired some memes.

Many viewers distinguish anxiety as a subset of Fear, which is also the name of one of the feelings explored in the original movie. This fan, however, describes the distinction well:

As noted by director Kelsey Mann, Anxiety is “not really the type to take a back seat… that makes a lot of sense if you think about it in terms of what goes on inside all our minds.”
