Windows Arrives On Apple’s Macs, iPhones, iPads As An App

Are you an Apple user coveting the best of both worlds? Last week, Nothing made news by bringing iMessage to Android. Turning the tables, kind of, is Microsoft, which is expanding its technological reach to rivaling operating systems with the new Windows App. The versatile tool allows users to remotely access a Windows OS from various devices. 

The Windows App brings cross-platform functionality to MacBooks, iPads, iPhones, and even web browsers where it’s inconvenient to download software, giving Apple users and PC owners the flexibility to stream to a Windows environment from almost anywhere. Other compatible sources include Azure Virtual Desktop, Windows 365, Microsoft Dev Box, and Microsoft’s Remote Desktop Services.

The program has a customizable home screen where users can pin their go-to devices and productivity apps—such as Microsoft Word or PowerPoint—and access them from one centralized location on the cloud. Those juggling multiple accounts can also toggle between them using an account-switching feature.

With support for multiple monitors, custom display resolutions, scaling options, and device redirection for peripherals like webcams, storage devices, and printers, it’s a comprehensive hub for diverse needs.

As of now, the Windows App is in its beta phase and is accessible through TestFlight on Apple devices, but not Android models.

Being in preview, the Windows App is currently exclusive to business accounts. It’s still too early to know if Microsoft plans to open it up to all users on non-Windows devices.
