Google Meet Now Lets You Raise Your Hand To Speak So You Don’t Need A Mouse
Google Meet has officially launched its all-new hand gesture detection feature—allowing users to raise their arms in real life and doing away with the need for users to select an icon.
According to the technology giant, the feature, first announced in March, will work when one raises their hands in a position that’s visible to the computer’s camera, with the limb away from an individual’s face and body.

It noted that those in the video call may need to hold their hand up for several seconds before it’s correctly identified by the system, which will then trigger the accompanying icon so chat moderators will know a user wishes to speak.
This tool will be made available for most Google Meet Workspace plans, though it needs to be enabled in the settings as it is currently toggled to “off” by default.
The next time one’s busy snacking during a call or is away from the mouse, they can simply raise their hands to get back in on the conversation.
