Lidl Saves Your Wardrobe Space By Offering Ugly Christmas Sweaters On Loan

The truth is, no one dons an ugly holiday sweater after December 25, and purchasing a new one each year seems wasteful. As such, Lidl recently came up with the idea of an outerwear rental service.

Those who wish to join in on the festivities without having to sacrifice closet space for multiple pullovers in their closet can rent a branded sweatshirt from the grocery chain for just £2 (US$2.50) per day.

The program is in effect till December 31, 2023, with proceeds from the initiative going towards the UK children’s charity NSPCC. Each Christmas sweater has to be checked out for a minimum of three days.

According to The Guardian, environmental organization Hubbub reported that 12 million sweatshirts were bought in 2019 alone. Worse still, UK households are believed to already have 65 million of these pullovers in storage.

A Lidl spokesperson said that the rental service will provide the opportunity for buyers to don brightly colored outerwear from both past and present collections and bespoke designs, “making festive fashion more accessible” for all.
