Animal Rights Group Makes Grotesque Board Game That Puts YOU On Chopping Board

In a truly cutthroat twist, Dutch animal rights group Wakker Dier has put a macabre spin on the traditional Game of the Goose, one of the earliest commercially produced board games, with a rich history dating back to the 15th century in Europe. This reimagined board game, put together by Berlin creative agency Mutant, serves as a stark commentary on the harsh realities of foie gras production.
The game’s visuals, recreating old-fashioned artwork, have been cleverly disguised by illustrator Jasper Schreurs to look like a whimsical family board game. Yet, beneath this façade lies a series of stark and unsettling illustrations that expose the cruelty endured by geese in the foie gras industry.

Not for the faint of heart, The Goose Liver Game takes players on a harrowing journey through the brutal process of harvesting livers and turning them into gourmet foods. Each roll of the dice can lead to heartless scenarios such as force-feeding, which mirrors the grim fate of geese in these farms.
Players are served multiple cruel obstacles along the way. On the fifth spot, it’s discovered you’re a female chick, which means your meat has no value for the foie gras industry and you’re immediately doomed to be ground up into cat food. On the 22nd square, your farm suffers a bird flu outbreak, and you will have to restart and endure all the torment again.
Reach the 59th square, and the farmer will determine your liver isn’t fatty enough—but wait, you’re not off the hook yet. Move backward on the production mill and continue this relentless cycle.

While the consumption of foie gras is prohibited in the Netherlands, some restaurants still serve it. This provocative board game doubles as a wake-up call, educating players about the inhumane practices behind foie gras production.
Wakker Dier sent a copy of the game to animal rights influencers, inviting them to safely walk in the webbed feet of these ill-fated birds.
