Nike Releases World Record-Breaking Marathon Shoes To The Masses

Nike is once again racing ahead in the speed department with its latest release, the Alphafly 3. Not just lacing up for a casual jog, the sneaker is making waves for catalyzing world record-breaking runs, worn by elite athletes like Kelvin Kiptum and Eliud Kipchoge.
Rooted in Nike’s early days as a running company, the Alphafly 3 is an evolution of the Alphafly series, known for helping to break the two-hour marathon barrier. It stands out as the lightest and most tested version in the series, equipped with Nike Air Zoom technology. Despite its role in elite running, the shoe is designed to aid runners at all levels in breaking their personal barriers.

The sportswear giant has refined the features of the model’s predecessors, incorporating the potent trio of Air Zoom units, a carbon Flyplate, and ZoomX foam. These components work in tandem to offer an impressive blend of propulsion, stability, and comfort.

However, it introduces a continuous bottom for smoother transitions and a wider full-length carbon fiber Flyplate for a stable ride. The shoe features dual Zoom Air units at the forefoot for a responsive feel, especially noticeable during uphill runs.

Running with the prototype, Kiptum shattered the world record at the Chicago Marathon this year with a time of two hours and 35 seconds. Sifan Hassan also raced into the spotlight, winning her debut in London and clocking the second-fastest women’s marathon time ever, also in Chicago. Meanwhile, Kipchoge continues his dominance, clinching his fifth victory in the Berlin Marathon.

Over 300 runners, including elite and everyday athletes, have put the Alphafly 3 through its paces, covering a staggering 20,000 miles in tests. This extensive research and development process, heavily influenced by feedback from women athletes, has led to significant advancements like softer yarns in the Atomknit 3.0 upper and better arch support.

This victory lap in the form of running gear comes in a ‘Prototype’ colorway, matching the appearance of the footwear worn by athletes during their record-breaking runs. It even bears the wear-test number (20820-4) on the lateral midsole, referencing the development stage involving runners.
Priced at US$285, it’s positioned as an investment for serious runners dedicated to elevating their performance. The Alphafly 3 is set to sprint to Nike’s website, app, and select running specialty stores on January 4, 2024.
