Hermès has introduced a new way to deliver messages in style—or should we say, in extravagance. For a cool £100 (US$126), you can own a piece of the French luxury house’s legacy: an exclusive paper envelope. It’s not a regular envelope; it’s an Hermès envelope.

These envelopes are touted as the perfect vessel for your most important messages, wrapped in the brand’s signature silk. Available in both A4 and A5 sizes, these are touted as carriers of special invitations or heartfelt declarations of love, offering a long-lasting way to preserve beautiful memories.

Unfortunately, forking out a premium doesn’t grant you the freedom to choose. With your purchase, “the patterns and the colors of your product will be a surprise.”

The internet caught wind of this luxury stationery through a TikTok video by Benton McClintock, which showcased other luxe items from Hermès’ home collection, including a US$7,750 paper basket and a US$1,350 mushroom paperweight.

This unconventional offering from Hermès has sparked a range of reactions online, with many social media users expressing incredulity at the hefty price tag for what appears to be a simple paper item.

Amid the mixed reactions, a comment captures the sentiment of many: “We’re literally just a joke to rich people.”
