Spotify ‘Daylists’ Are The New ‘Zodiac Signs’ Sweeping Instagram

Spotify’s ‘Daylist’ feature is now striking a chord with social media users with its dynamic, personalized playlists that evolve throughout the day.
The offering, introduced last September, conjures up playlists that algorithmically change twice daily to match individual listening habits during the day and at night. This level of personalization, being in tune with users’ everyday rhythms, has been likened to the cultural fascination with astrology and other forms of divination. There are no crystal balls or tarot cards involved, though—just Spotify’s quintessentially clever crunching of data.
On Instagram, Daylists have become a trend, with users eagerly sharing their unique audio identities through viral, get-to-know-me-type Stories. These often start with a template reading, “Don’t tell me your astrology sign; I want you to go into Spotify, search for your daylist and post the title it gave you.”
