We’re all used to seeing chirpy faces on fast-food logos. The truth, unfortunately, is usually quite a fowl one.
NotCo, a vegan food tech company that utilizes artificial intelligence to create plant-based alternatives, is challenging the food industry’s fictional portrayal of animals in a brazen Not So Happy Animals campaign.
Starting Wednesday, those in the US can interact with cheerful animal logos near them through augmented reality by visiting the dedicated Not Happy site and capturing the mascots via their devices.
Once scanned, these characters spring to life, singing a tune that tells a different story than their smiles suggest.
NotCo recommends starting with a certain “Atlanta-based chicken company,” whose beaked ambassador, unlike its human coworkers, doesn’t get to unwind on Sundays.
By animating these logos, NotCo peels back the curtain on the reality behind mindless meals and encourages consumers to think more critically about what they eat. The initiative uses a cheeky approach to inform the public about the grim ongoings of fast-food production.
