Breaking up can feel like you’ve been clawed in the heart, but this Valentine’s Day, the Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center is offering a purr-fectly unique way to scratch back.
The shelter in Blackwood, New Jersey, has kicked off a Neuter Your Ex campaign where, for a donation of US$50, scorned lovers can name a feral cat after their ex and then have it neutered or spayed.
The promotion aims to provide a little cathartic relief for the jilted, noting, “Because some things shouldn’t breed.”
In all seriousness, by breaking the cycle of reproduction, the initiative helps prevent the emergence of unwanted kittens in the community, ensuring fewer cats live a tough life on the streets. Neuter Your Ex is part of the shelter’s ongoing efforts to manage the feral cat population through its trap-neuter-return (TNR) program.

It’s a win for you and feline inhabitants, but not so much for the targeted former flame.
The shelter, however, emphasizes that only first names or nicknames will be used to keep the process semi-anonymous and respectful to ex-partners, no matter how much they’ve crossed you.
