‘Despicable Me 4’ Teaser Hilariously Pokes Fun At AI-Generated Art Obsession

At Super Bowl LVIII, the Minions dabbled in the world of artificial intelligence art generators to drum up cheeky attention for Despicable Me 4.

With Jon Hamm lending his voice, the spot did double duty, hyping up the forthcoming sequel while giving audiences a peek at AI’s quirky side and sometimes bizarre results.

“Artificial intelligence is changing the way we see the world, showing us what we never thought possible, transforming the way we do business, and bringing family and friends closer together,” Hamm narrates. “With artificial intelligence, the future is in good hands.”

Steve Carell and Will Ferrell—portraying Gru and new nemesis Maxime Le Mal—are first depicted as “comic royalty,” as instructed in the prompt, in regal gear.

This is juxtaposed with hilariously offbeat scenes showing extra-limbed yoga enthusiasts, a handshake with too many fingers, and people riding dogs like ponies.

It is later revealed that the Minions have been the ones behind this silly art direction.

Despicable Me 4 promises to be another exciting chapter in the franchise, bringing back beloved characters and introducing new ones into the mix as Gru becomes a father to a baby menace. With a star-studded cast featuring the voices of Ferrell, Sofia Vergara, Joey King, Stephen Colbert, and Chloe Fineman, alongside the returning talents of Carell and Kristen Wiig, the film is poised to be a summer hit.
