Casio Remakes World’s First Digital Watch With Auto Calendar To Mark 50 Years

Casio is winding back the clock to celebrate a monumental milestone, marking 50 years since the debut of its beloved timepieces with the launch of the TRN-50, a modern homage to the pioneering Casiotron QW02.

This limited-edition release, capped at 4,000 units globally, is a nod to the world’s first digital watch line equipped with an automatic calendar function.

The journey began in 1974 when Casio introduced the Casiotron, leveraging the company’s expertise in calculator technology to offer something entirely new to the watch market. The Casiotron automatically adjusted for the varying lengths of months, and while the original skipped February 29 during leap years, subsequent models cleverly accounted for the date. 

Fast forward to today. The TRN-50, reimagined for today’s world, mirrors the original Casiotron’s design, including its iconic dark blue face and logo—but it also packs modern features like radio-controlled time adjustment, solar charging, and Mobile Link functions that allow it to pair with smartphones.

Not only does the TRN-50 pay tribute to its predecessor in aesthetics, but it also enhances user experience with a super-twisted nematic (STN) LCD for improved readability and a Tough Solar charging system. It’s equipped to stay accurate no matter where you are in the world, thanks to time calibration signals received from six stations globally and Bluetooth connectivity for smartphone pairing, ensuring you’re truly always on time.

In keeping with the spirit of a true collector’s item, the TRN-50 boasts special touches such as an original case back design with an engraved serial number and eco-friendly packaging.

Casio’s 50th-anniversary TRN-50-2ADR watch is set to make its debut in late February 2024.
