Apple might be beloved for its skeuomorphic design, in which interface objects appear like their real-world counterparts, but the same can’t always be said for its hardware. While the Apple Pencil is a stylus, it doesn’t exactly live up to its namesake or take you back to school. ColorWare, a brand specializing in custom-painted gadgets, is here to put pen to paper.
This playful twist on the tech giant’s digital pen offers a nostalgic trip down memory lane for anyone who remembers the classic yellow writing tool.
The ColorWare Number 2 Pencil takes the second-generation Apple Pencil and gives it a complete rewrite, at least on the outside. Gone is the minimalist white exterior, replaced by the familiar bright yellow body and silver tip of a traditional #2 pencil.

But don’t be fooled by the playful appearance; this pencil is all business under the hood. It retains all the functionalities of the original Apple Pencil, including pressure and tilt sensitivity for precise drawing and writing on compatible iPads. A special painting process maintains the stylus’s natural feel and responsiveness, while also ensuring it still magnetically attaches to iPads for charging.

While the standard version channels the classic #2 pencil, users have the option to personalize their Pencils with logos, designs, or even messages to reflect their personality.
Take note, literally, that since this is a modified product, the ColorWare Number 2 Pencil (priced at US$215) won’t be covered under Apple’s standard warranty. However, the personalizer provides its own 12-month protection against defects and failures.
Just remember: it writes beautifully, but sharpening is definitely not required—or even recommended, for that matter!
