Adobe Unveils Supercharged Photoshop Powered By All-New Firefly 3 AI Model

Adobe has peeled back the curtain for the latest beta version of Photoshop, now enriched with advanced Generative Fill features including a Reference Image tool. Announced at MAX London, this update amplifies the creative capabilities available to users of all skill levels, effectively bridging the gap between a blank canvas and striking visual content.

Underpinning these powers is the all-new Firefly 3 artificial intelligence model, providing users with tools that allow for more detailed and varied visual expressions, while offering improvements in image detail, prompt understanding, and overall image quality. Advancements include photorealistic renderings with enhanced lighting and positioning, more nuanced text display, and faster processing times for more dynamic creative exploration.

Starting on a blank slate won’t feel so painful anymore with ‘Generate Image’, which brings full text-to-art abilities to Photoshop for the first time ever. You’ll get to work on a canvas that begins with a desired graphic dreamed up using text prompts, and then add to it with further descriptions.

For a whole new scene altogether, ‘Generate Background’ gets the AI to whip up a fresh backdrop for your project, eliminating the need to hunt down stock photos or spend ages crafting one yourself.

Feeling stuck on a design concept? ‘Generate Similar’ lets you take an existing image and create variations on it. Play with different color schemes, tweak the composition, or explore new ideas altogether, all within Photoshop.

For those who crave even more control, ‘Reference Image’ lets you use your own photos as a starting point. Let’s say you have a portrait you like, but the background is rather drab. Use ‘Reference Image’ to feed the AI a picture of a dramatic mountain range, and it’ll create a new image that blends your portrait with the new background.

Additionally, the ‘Enhance Detail’ feature sharpens and clarifies images, adding a final touch of refinement.

Photoshop has also rolled out practical tools such as the Adjustment Brush for targeted, non-destructive edits, an improved Font Browser providing access to over 25,000 Adobe fonts directly in the cloud, and Adjustment Presets for applying quick effects or saving customized settings.

This update is currently available in the Photoshop desktop beta app, with a wider release planned for later this year.
