Christian Louboutin Dresses Up Chairs With Iconic Red-Soled ‘Shoes’

Haute couture takes a seat with a captivating collection of chairs, celebrations of feminine beauty, borne from the minds of shoe designer Christian Louboutin and renowned interior architect Pierre Yovanovitch.
At first glance, the pairing might seem unexpected. Louboutin, famed for his sky-high stilettos with the unmistakable red soles, and Yovanovitch, known for his sophisticated, Parisian-inspired interiors, represent seemingly disparate aesthetics. However, a closer look reveals a shared love for exquisite craftsmanship, historical references, and a touch of the theatrical. This common ground forms the foundation of their intriguing collaboration.

The collection, unveiled at Yovanovitch Mobilier’s New York flagship, encompasses nine limited-edition chairs, each a tribute to a powerful woman, real or imagined. Yovanovitch’s signature ‘Clam’ shape provides the base, while Louboutin’s unmistakable touch comes in the form of the legs, each a sculptural interpretation of his iconic red-soled heels.

Dita, for instance, channels the burlesque glamor of Louboutin’s friend Dita Von Teese, featuring a statement-making laser-engraved “costume” on the upholstery. Josefina, a tribute to the roaring 20s, exudes sophistication with dark-mahogany oak and a fringed leather seat. Syrena, meanwhile, evokes the mythical allure of a mermaid with its shimmering blue marine fabric and fishnet-inspired legs.

Five Simply Nude chairs, on the other hand, pay homage to Louboutin’s Nudes footwear collection. These range from minimalist to playfully extravagant, some featuring a simple carved wooden foot with the signature red sole.
