Volkswagen is stepping up for the US launch of the ID.Buzz, an all-electric revival of its iconic Microbus, and it’s bringing a splash of customization to the mix. As part of the run-up to the second International Bus Day on June 1, the automaker has announced a new custom graphics program for the ID.Buzz in collaboration with Denver-based Wrapmate, a company renowned for its vehicle wraps.
Scheduled to hit the US market as a 2025 model later this year, the ID.Buzz symbolizes Volkswagen’s shift towards electric vehicles and sustainability. Launching in beta on June 2, Wrapmate’s 3D configurator will allow ID.Buzz owners to unleash their inner artist. This online tool provides a real-time visualization platform, enabling users to experiment with colors, graphics, and patterns to create a truly personalized covering.
Custom wraps ordered through Wrapmate or participating Volkswagen dealerships will be produced using premium 3M vinyl for the most vibrant colors and long-lasting durability. Installation will be handled by Wrapmate’s network of over 2,000 certified installers across the US.
While pricing details haven’t been officially announced, more information on the ordering process should be ready in the fall of 2024, coinciding with the the model’s official launch.

For those who prefer a curated selection, Volkswagen will also offer pre-designed wraps. The first in this series is the eye-catching Love the Earth design by Bob Hieronimus, which pays homage to the psychedelic vibes of the original flower power buses and imagines the phrase “Love the Earth” in 25 languages, including indigenous ones like MÄori and Navajo. Expect to see more artist collaborations and special-edition wraps rolled out in the future.
