Australia Releases ‘Bluey’ Coins, Starting A Love Of Collecting Young

Australia’s beloved Blue Heeler pup, Bluey, has officially entered the mint. The Royal Australian Mint is commemorating the cartoon’s immense popularity with a limited-edition collection of Dollarbucks featuring Bluey and her friends.

The array, known as the 2024 Bluey Dollarbucks, marks the first time the Mint has partnered with a children’s television program, and colorfully depicts Bluey in various iconic scenes from the show. One coin features Bluey on her own, another presents the Heeler family together, and the third depicts Bingo and Bluey dressed up as The Grannies.

A hidden detail, teased by the creators, will have collectors young and old searching the fun and timeless coins with extra scrutiny. “Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the hidden long dogs!” expresses Kate O’Connor, director of brands and licensing ANZ at BBC Studios.

The launch is seen as a way to cultivate budding coin collectors. “We hope that through this new Bluey program we are cultivating the coin collector of tomorrow,” says Royal Australian Mint CEO Leigh Gordon. “What better way to start your child’s or grandchild’s coin collection, than with a Bluey coin?"

Sold in individual coin cards or as a three-coin set in a bespoke presentation envelope, the packaging reflects the series’ playful spirit. The envelope and a fun sticker sheet have been lovingly designed by Ludo Studio.
