Erewhon Serves Up Smoothie That Tastes Like Sunscreen Squeezed Into A Cup

Erewhon’s latest milkshake brings all the whiffs of summer—and sun protection—to the yard. The chic specialty supermarket chain in Los Angeles is making waves with its newest concoction, the Sunscreen Smoothie, brewed as part of a collaboration with sunscreen brand Vacation.
To be clear, this quirky drink doesn’t contain any actual UV blockers. Rather, it promises to slather on warm memories and transport taste buds to a tropical paradise. Crafted to evoke the essence of a sunny beach getaway, the Sunscreen Smoothie features a blend of refreshing tropical flavors with ingredients like organic coconut milk, coconut water, coconut soft serve, coconut meat, coconut whipped cream, banana, blue spirulina (an edible algae), Erewhon scratch vanilla, aloe, and sea salt.
Specifically, the recipe mirrors the creamy hues and summery scent of Vacation’s popular Classic SPF 30 Lotion to turn every sip a mini-vacation. And while it doesn’t substitute for actual sunscreen, the smoothie does pack a hydrating punch, thanks to its coconut water base. Dehydration can worsen sunburn, so staying hydrated is an important part of sun safety. Additionally, some of the smoothie's ingredients, like fruits rich in vitamin C, can contribute to overall skin health.
This new offering, Erewhon’s first beverage collaboration with a single beauty brand, not only expands its diverse menu but also quenches a growing thirst for a mix of wellness and indulgence.
At US$9 for a 12-ounce pop, the Sunscreen Smoothie is relatively affordable by Erewhon standards—though it’s by no means pocket-friendly when compared to your favorite coffee shop beverage. As a sunny surprise, Erewhon members can enjoy the tropical treat for free through June 14.
