Modern Family fans were recently treated to a delightful surprise when Jesse Tyler Ferguson, known for his role as Mitchell Pritchett, shared a nostalgic snap of the show’s iconic staircase on his Instagram stories. “Haven’t seen this view in a while,” he wrote, igniting a flurry of speculation about a possible reboot, movie, or reunion. And while the excitement was palpable, the real reason behind the reunion of Ferguson and his fellow cast members was… a new campaign for WhatsApp. You can’t make this stuff up.

The Meta-owned messaging platform has brought together Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Eric Stonestreet, and Ferguson to promote its cross-platform functionalities. The commercial sees the actors effortlessly slip back into their beloved roles, as though the show never ended at all.

The campaign humorously tackles the ongoing debate between blue and green text bubbles, referencing the differences between iPhone’s iMessage and other messaging services. In one of the commercials, Claire, Phil, and Cameron marvel over a photo sent by the Dunphys’ daughter Haley, only to reveal that Mitchell has been left out of the group chat due to his incompatible phone.

In another segment, Claire and Phil express their frustration over their children’s lack of replies and infrequent visits. The solution? Installing WhatsApp to keep the family connected regardless of their phone preferences. This scenario feels all too real for many parents and highlights the app’s utility in maintaining bonds across various platforms and devices.

The videos may bring to mind one of Modern Family’s most acclaimed episodes, Connection Lost, which unfolds entirely through Claire’s laptop screen as she navigates Apple’s FaceTime, iMessage, and other social networks to stay in touch with her family. This uniquely formatted episode earned the beloved mockumentary an Emmy award.

Speaking of sitcom reunions, have you seen AT&T’s commercials starring the cast from The Office?
