Nothing’s First Phone From Its ‘Budget’ Brand To Be Highly Customizable

Last year, Nothing debuted CMF, an “accessible” sub-brand by the sleek tech company that’s focused on creating affordable yet design-centric products by prioritizing user experience through core functionalities. Following the launch of the CMF Buds and the CMF Neckband Pro, the line is now turning to the category everyone has been waiting for: the smartphone. The CMF Phone 1 is arriving on July 8, 2024. The real kicker is its customizability, going against the grain of other companies’ refusal of the right to repair.
As teased by the brand, with the upcoming CMF Phone 1, users will be able to unscrew their phone to swap accessories.

Ditching the light-up glyphs of its pricier siblings, the model will embrace a more utilitarian appearance—the company itself calls it “the engineer’s aesthetic.” Early visuals reveal a phone with visible screws and a changeable back panel.

The CMF Phone 1 packs a punch under the hood with the powerful MediaTek Dimensity 7300 processor, ensuring smooth performance for daily tasks and even multitasking thanks to its generous RAM options (up to 16GB). Beyond the core processing power, the phone boasts a suite of essential sensors, including a digital compass for navigation and motion sensors to keep track of your activity.

For capturing those special moments, the CMF Phone 1 features a Sony 50MP camera with an f/1.8 lens, designed to capture stunning photos even in challenging lighting conditions. Advanced algorithms like Ultra XDR further enhance image quality, ensuring your photos are bright and detailed.

Making good on its promise for user experience, the CMF Phone 1 provides tactile feedback through a haptic motor, with a cleverly engineered SIM system and RF antenna for seamless connectivity. Internally, Flexible Printed Circuits (FPCs) replace bulky cables for efficient data flow.

Meanwhile, the long-lasting 5,000mAh battery enables two full days of use—or “22 hours of non-stop YouTube!” the brand details. The battery itsel sports innovative electrode placement for cooler operation and extended usage. Security and sound haven't been overlooked—the in-display fingerprint sensor ensures secure access, and the speaker system promises to amplify, “inspired by the resonance principles of classical instruments.”
The CMF Phone 1 will come in four back panel colors—black, blue, light green, and orange—and you can cycle through them to match your mood. “The design allows for interchangeable covers and accessories,” says CMF by Nothing.
