Samsung Introduces ‘Sketch To Image’ AI Feature That Turns Doodles Into Objects

Artistic shortcuts abound. At the height of the text-to-art generative artificial intelligence wave, Samsung is putting a little physical control back into the hands of users, quite literally, with Sketch to Image.

Powered by the company’s Galaxy AI and launched with the One UI 6.1.1 update, the feature promises to transform rough drawings into full-fledged objects. It’s particularly handy for devices with extra real estate, like the new Galaxy Z Fold series.

Sketch to Image leverages machine learning to interpret basic drawings made with the S Pen or even your finger. You can doodle on the screen, and the AI fills in the blanks, generating a complete image based on the sketch. It offers various artistic styles, from watercolors to pop art, allowing users to customize the final output.

In a video, Samsung demonstrates how Sketch to Image can be used to create art from scratch or to dress up photos.

You could, for example, draw a hat on someone’s head and watch the illustration take on a life of its own.

There will be some misses, though, according to tech journalists who have experimented with the feature.

While it won’t be replacing traditional art forms anytime soon, Samsung’s Sketch to Image might be a good-to-have tool for sparking ideas or just decorating your notes.
